Died very suddenly on Friday the 12th of May, 1843, at his residence on White Oak, Rutherford County, N. C., Mr. George Jones, aged 70 years. The deceased was a native of Orange County, Virginia, but came with his father at an early age to Wilkes County, N. C., where he was raised. Soon after he grew up, he commenced the mercantile business as a clerk with Messrs. Patton & Erwin in Wilkesboro.... after they removed to Buncombe Court House…continued to do business with them. They set him up in business as a co-partner at Laurens C. H., S. C. in the year 1806. In 1814 he returned to Rutherford County, N. C., where he resided until 1825 (when) he went back to S. C., Spartanburgh Court House.… He again returned to his farm on White Oak where he died. He married in Buncombe County, N. C. in 1806, the daughter of William Mills, Sen'r, and had nine children. His wife and eight of them are still living. (ibid)
