In the 1911 census Stephen and his wife Miriam were visiting his father at Castleredmond, Midleton, Co. Cork.

Adeline, his daughter, aged 36, single, born in Co. Cork,
Frances, daughter, aged 30, single, born in Co. Cork,
Stephen, son, aged 32, no occupation noted, married, born in Co. Cork,
Miriam, daughter-in-law, aged 33, born in Dublin city,
They had been married 8 years and had 3 children, 2 of whom were alive.
2 domestic servants were also present.
He joined his uncle's practice in 1911, and subsequently became a partner in the practice od Ashlin & Coleman, later Ashlin Coleman Heelin
Their two children,
George Kevin Ashlin, aged 5,
Sybil Ashiln, aged 4,
were living at home in Killiney, next door to their Ashlin grandparents, at St. George's Avenue.
