George Coppinger Ashlin



Third son of John Musson Ashlin of Wandsworth, London, and Dorinda Maria Coppinger of Middleton, Co. Cork, who were married in St. Peter's Church [C of I], Aungier Street, Dublin, on 4 July 1833

He was born at Carrigrenane House, Little Island, Co. Cork.
Educated in Belgium, and England, he became a pupil in the Architectural firm of Edward Welby Pugin, son of Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin, in 1856.
In 1861, he returned to Ireland and established the firm of Pugin & Ashlin. The partnership was dissolved in 1868, and Ashlin commenced practice under his own name.

He returned to London in late 1867, and married Edward Pugin's sister Mary.



In the 1911 census, the Ashlin family were living at 7, Killiney Hill Road, Killiney, Co. Dublin.

Present were,
George Coppinger Ashlin, aged 74, an Architect, married, born in Co. Cork.
Mary, his wife, aged 66, married, born in England.
They had been married 43 years and had 1 child, who was still alive,
2 domestic servants, sisters, born locally, were also present.


He died at his home, St. George's, Killiney, Co. Dublin, which he designed for himself and his family, in 1921, aged 84.
The house was later owned by
Dr. Harold Saunderson Sugars
