Barbara Louise Foster was born on November 29, 1932 in Los Angeles to Mary Francis Bryan (1901-1962) and Joseph Austin Foster (1903-1992). She had two sisters, (Peggy) and Margery-Ann (who died as an infant), and one brother Bobby. She grew up in East L.A./ Belvedere Gardens until her parents divorced and moved to Montebello. She graduated from Montebello High School in 1950 and did some studies in L.A. City College. On August 6, 1955 she married Gerald Shannon (Jerry) Haggerty, her high school sweetheart, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Montebello. They settled in Pico Rivera to start a family. In 1964 they moved to a bigger house in Hacienda Heights on Gembrook Avenue as the family got bigger. Altogether they had 7 children. Jerry and Barbara were both active with the local community and at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, coaching girls softball for years. Barbara was also a local Avon representative selling cosmetics. After her husband Jerry died in 1977 she worked in various jobs to support the younger children as they grew up. Barbara died of complications of leukemia on August 31st, 1988 in Beverly Hospital in Montebello – she was 55 years old. She was buried at Rose Hills Memorial Park. She will always be loved and remembered by her children and grandchildren.
