Belleville - James L. "Jim" Winkelman, age 51, died on Sunday, March 15, 2015 surrounded by his family and friends, at UW Hospital following a brief illness. He was born on May 26, 1963 in Madison, son of James A. and Sally (Hendricks) Winkelman.

Jim graduated from Verona High School in 1982. Following high school he completed the Steamfitters Apprenticeship and worked with his father at Commercial Control Systems an HVAC company. After his father's retirement he formed his own contracting company, Control Solutions Inc. Jim was proud to have his son, Brian join him as a fourth generation steamfitter.

One of Jim's biggest passions was racing. At age 11 he started racing motorcycles and go-carts, building his own engines and equipment, winning many championships. Over the next 40 years he participated in many forms of racing including late model stock cars, drag cars and currently holds a NHRA Class 4 Competition License for his Bantam Altered drag car.

Jim was a Boy Scout leader, he enjoyed participating in Fishing Has No Boundaries and was a member of several bowling leagues. He also enjoyed riding his Harley Electra Glide Limited and driving his Dodge Challenger SRT8.

He is survived by his sons, Brian and Steven Winkelman; his parents, Jim and Sally Winkelman; sisters, Shari (Mike) Krueger and Vicki (Tim Cockroft) Winkelman; his significant other, Laura Villarreal and her daughter, Abigail; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Randy Winkelman; his grandparents; his uncle, David A Winkelman and his aunt, Karen Jo Zingg.

Burial will be at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery on Saturday, March 21, 2014.
