Jean P. Nowell (Mrs. Carl H.) passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015, in Philadelphia, Mississippi. Born June 23, 1924, she grew up in Jackson, Mississippi, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest E. Parker. As a talented musician, she began playing for church at age 12 and continued as a church pianist throughout her adult life. She earned a B.A. degree from Mississippi College and taught public school music at Ethel and Moss Point prior to her marriage. On July 31, 1949, she married Carl H. Nowell of Philadelphia, Mississippi. She and Carl taught at Arlington School and Mississippi School for the Blind prior to moving to Tuscaloosa, Alabama for Carl to complete graduate work. They lived in the Mobile, Alabama area before settling in Montgomery, Alabama. Mrs. Nowell was a member of First Baptist Church of Montgomery.

She is survived by family members, Elsie Parker, Charles and Carolyn Cox, Alan and Gail Breazeale, Marion and Inez Parker, Shirley Breazeale, Marilyn Belding, Johnie Hooper, Iva Nell Tingle, plus many nieces, nephews, and friends.
