MRS. O’CONNOR, 76, DIES IN TRUXTON
Mother of Attorney C. Leonard O’Connor of Cortland
HAD A LONG ILLNESS
With Husband John O’Connor, Had Golden Wedding, Nov. 24

Mrs. Margaret Hartnett O’Connor, 76, the wife of John O’Connor of Truxton and the mother of Attorney C. Leonard O’Connor of this city, died this morning, Dec. 31, at 6 a.m., at her home in the former village following a lengthy illness.

The couple on November 24 celebrated their golden wedding anniversary and attained an unusual record in that five members of the bridal party were in the group of some 22 present for the dinner gathering. Besides the bride and groom, Miss Ella O’Connor and Daniel P. Hartnett, the maid of honor and best man, were in attendance for the anniversary as well as Dan Twentyman, their coachman. A sixth member still living, but who was unable to be present, was Mrs. Daniel Pierce of Syracuse, the organist.

Mrs. O’Connor was formerly Miss Margaret Hartnett, the daughter of the late Daniel and Ellen Hennessy Hartnett. She was born at Truxton, June 3, 1864, and was one of a family of six children. She went on to ST. Joseph’s Convent School at Binghamton, which was then a widely known school; later returning to Truxton to teach school for four years.

The romance was the result of the couple’s meeting at the old Homer Academy as students. The wedding ceremony was solemnized November 25, 1890, at St. Patrick’s Church, Truxton, with the Rev. Michael Joyce, officiating.

Mrs. O’Connor was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church at Truxton and was well known as an accomplished singer in her earlier days.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons and two daughters, Attorney C. Leonard O’Connor of Cortland, John D O’Connor, Mrs. Emmett O’Donnell and Mrs. Leo Dwyer, one brother, Daniel P. Hartnett, all of Truxton. There are also seven grandchildren, Helena, Patricia, Joseph and Leonard Dwyer; Edward, Paul and Robert O’Donnell, all of whom attend the Truxton Central School; also several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. O’Connor was a niece of the late Rev. Patrick Hennessy, rector of St. Patrick’s Cathedral at Jersey City, N. Y, who was one of the outstanding Catholic priests of the country, and she was a cousin of Governor-elect Robert Hurley of Connecticut.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday morning at 9:30 from the late residence and at 10 from St. Patrick’s Church, Truxton. Burial will be made in the family plot of St. Mary’s Cemetery, in this city.
