Age 85. Of Hilden, Nova Scotia.
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gerry Bruce on Monday, October 27, 2003 at Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Antigonish in 1918, he was a son of the late Charles and Sadie (Mason) Bruce. Gerry was a member of the Canadian based radar airforce squadron stationed in Britain. He received a degree in Mining Engineering in 1949 from Acadia University in Wolfville. He worked in the mines in Nova Scotia and for the C.N.R. in Moncton, New Brunswick. Gerry moved his young family to Ontario and worked for the Board of Transport Commissioners in Ottawa. He then moved to Nova Scotia in 1989 where he spent his wonderful retirement years "down on the farm". He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Lila (Lively) (Saunders); children, Valerie Paddon (Paul), Rob Bruce (Mary-Anne), both of Belleville, Ontario, Lynn West (Eugene), Calgary, Alberta. He will be sadly missed by his stepchildren, Dave Saunders, Tom Saunders, Brian Saunders (Heather), Andrew Saunders (Tracy) all of Hilden, Randy Saunders (Sharon), Saint John, New Brunswick. He was a dear grandpa to 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his loving first wife, Edna (Morris). Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. A Memorial Service to celebrate Gerry's life will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, with Rev. Daniel Gunn officiating. Interment at a later date in Pinecrest Cemetery, Ottawa. In memory of Gerry, kindly consider a donation to the Hilden United Church or a charity of your choice.
