Matthew means "Gift of God," and we gave him that middle name because that is truly what he was.

Our beloved son, William Matthew Acosta, died Sunday in New Orleans. He is now at peace in the loving arms of Jesus Christ. William was in his third year at LSU, studying history and education. He was an employee of Crispy Catch and a recent graduate of Palmetto Addiction Recovery Center in Rayville.

William is survived by his loving parents, Thomas W. Acosta, Jr. and Mary Broussard Acosta; his grandmothers, Margaret Hebert Sarradet Acosta and Mary Guillot Broussard; and a devoted girlfriend, Julie Liu. He also is survived by his aunts and uncles: Stacie and Frank Coffey, Christine and Owen Hebert, Stephen and Michelle Sarradet, Kim Lemoine, Martha Broussard, Milton C. Broussard, Jr., Jeanne Broussard, Laura and Ken Duhe, Donna Broussard, Alex and Pam Broussard, Maurice Broussard, Jane Broussard and Bill Clarke, Ella Broussard, Martin Broussard and Gabrielle Broussard; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister Ann Marie Acosta, loving aunts Julie Sarradet Lemoine and Kay Marie Acosta; his grandparents Thomas "Bobbie" Acosta, Sr. and Shirley Mouch Acosta, and Milton C. Broussard, Sr. William was a gentle soul who loved all animals, especially his beagle "Charger." He graduated from Redemptorist High School in 2012. He loved music, snow-boarding and international travel.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Wilbert Funeral Home in Port Allen, with Rosary at 7 p.m.; and from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Brusly. Mass at 11:30 a.m. Burial to follow in church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be cousins Adam Duhe, Jude Broussard, Noah Broussard, Charlie Broussard, Alex Broussard Jr., Lucas Broussard and Ben Broussard.
