She was the daughter of Abraham LeBlanc and Marguerite Langley of Nova Scotia.

About 1865, she married John Joseph DeCoste Jr. (1844-1910) in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia.

They had the following children: John William DeCoste (1868-1930), Joseph S. DeCoste (ca 1871-1946), Charles Edward DeCoste Sr. (1875-1948)., Nathaniel Loren DeCoste (1878-1957), and Abraham Warren DeCoste (1880-1963).

Around 1883, the family emigrated from Nova Scotia to Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Little is known of Amelia or her parents. According to oral family history, Amelia was French and Passamaquoddy. Family members said she always wore Native American clothing, which created friction among extended family members and some residents of Gloucester.

She died of pneumonia at her home on Mansfield Street in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
