J. A. (Jay) French, age 93, died June 1, 2000 in Sayre, Oklahoma. Born near Greenville, Texas, December 30, 1906, he was the third child of John T. and Ella Victoria French. He moved to Erick in 1909 and remained a Beckham County resident for the remainder of his life.
World War II veteran.
His first wife, Clara Louise, a brother, Loui Polk French, a sister, Mozelle Boyte and his parents, precedes Mr. French in death.
He is survived by his second wife, Mary Lee. He is also survived by a son and his wife, John T. and Linda French of Austin, Texas; two daughters and their husbands, Loise and John Smotherman of Roswell, New Mexico and Susan and Jace Carrington of Dallas, Texas; 9 grandchildren [named]; 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his second wife's children [named] step grandchildren [named].
Funeral services in the Sayre First United Methodist Church. Interment in the Erick Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Home.
