Beauford was born on Violet Ridge Plantation in Pace, Mississippi to Myrtle Bell Smith Alexander and William Jacob Alexander. During the summers the Alexander children went with their parents to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas where they had an orchard. Beauford and Mary married in her hometown of New Orleans and had two sons Beau Alexander (Dianna), granddaughter Lisa, and son Nathan. Beauford served in the military with honors during World War II. They later settled in the San Joaquin Valley in California. Beauford died in Eureka, California and his ashes were brought back home to the Mississippi Delta to a cemetery on the Bogue where he played as a child. His parents and other relatives are buried there also.
