Allen Brooks, 70 year old Buffalo resident, passed away suddenly at his home Sunday evening.

Allen Jaye Brooks was born on August 8, 1944 in Buffalo to J.L. and Juanita Brooks. He went to school in various parts of the country with his family following his father's work. They settled in Buffalo when he was in junior high and he graduated from Johnson County High School with the class of 1962. While in high school he was active in football, basketball and rodeo. After high school he received a football scholarship at Chadron State College where he played for one year. His father passed away and Allen returned to Buffalo to run the family business, Big Horn Water Welling Drilling. He returned to College in 1971 after selling the business and received a B.S. in Education from the University of Wyoming in 1974. He was married on August 9th 1974 in Casper to Terry Condit and they made their home in Dubois where Allen took a teaching position and also coached football, basketball and taught Driver's Education. In 1975 they moved to Douglas where he taught Social Studies, and Driver's Ed. He also coached boys basketball and football and later developed the girls basketball program as head coach. In 1981 he took a position in Buffalo as the school transportation and safety director and in 2004 he became the district's facilities and safety director. Over his career he supervised the construction of the new Buffalo High School, the new Clear Creek Middle School and new Kaycee High School. Allen worked for the school district until he retired in 2008. After retirement he worked as a construction consultant for the Tongue River and Big Horn Schools. Allen retired completely in 2011 and continued living in Buffalo until his death.

Allen was the chairman of the Jim Gatchell Museum Association Board and served as the president of their foundation. He was an officer in the Wyoming Pupil Transportation Association. He was instrumental in creating the Fuel Facilities Joint Powers Board for the school, city and county. He loved following his boys in school activities and coached boy's baseball and basketball. He followed all the school sports and enjoyed rodeo. He was very supportive of his nieces and nephews activities and they all adored him. Allen loved roping and roped with his friends the day before he died.

He is survived by his wife Terry of Buffalo; two sons, Jacob Brooks of Cheyenne and Bart Brooks and his wife Charlene of Chicago; two sisters, Sandy Rives and her husband Dick of Buffalo and Betty Knudson of Glasgow, Montana; one grandson Trey Allen Brooks of Chicago and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
