Verna M. Shavlik, age 97, of 1019 Lowell St. Two Rivers, died early Monday morning, May 2, 2016 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc.

Verna was born March 10, 1919 in the Town of Franklin, daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Muench) Oswald. She attended schools in Taus and Kellnersville. On April 23, 1936, she married George J. Shavlik at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kellnersville. Together the couple farmed in the Taus area before moving to Two Rivers in 1956. George preceded her in death on February 22, 2004. Verna also worked for Paragon Electric of Two Rivers from 1959 to 1972, and then also worked as an Avon Representative for 42 years, and a crossing guard for the city of Two Rivers for many years. Verna was a longtime member of St. Mark's Parish in Two Rivers; and an original member and huge supporter of the Taus Ball Club. Verna and George enjoyed many years of traveling together; she was a longtime member of the Ladies of St. Peter the Fisherman and the Two Rivers Senior Center; she enjoyed many years of bowling, and was an avid Packer & Brewer fan.

Survivors include her two sons & a daughter-in-law: Donald Shavlik of Two Rivers, George and Beverly Shavlik, Jr. of Taus; one daughter & two sons-in-law: Joann and Gary Allen, Cocoa Beach, FL, and Ray Berres of Branch; nine grandchildren: Cindy (Roger) Eichhorst, Terry (Lisa) Shavlik, Randy Shavlik, Michele (Steve) Eichhorst; Dennis, Bruce, and Jay Lyman; Danny and Zachary Berres; one step grandchild: Tyghe (Melanie) Vallard; seven great grandchildren: one step great granddaughter; and ten great-great grandchildren. She is further survived by two sisters: Beatrice Kostechka of Reedsville, Elaine Kutil of Two Rivers; one brother & one sister-in-law: Eugene Oswald of Valders, and Virginia Oswald of Manitowoc; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, George, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Berres; two brothers, Cletus (Bernice) Oswald and Sylvan Oswald; brothers-in-law: Raymond Kostechka, Robert Kutil, Joseph (Adeline) Shavlik, Frank (Virginia) Shavlik; a sister-in-law: Marge Oswald; and her father & mother-in-law: Joseph and Barbara Shavlik.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2016, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3201 Mishicot Rd. Two Rivers. Rev. Tom Reynebeau will officiate at the Mass of Christian Burial, with entombment to follow in Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum, Hwy. 310, Manitowoc.
