He was a retired farmer and a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church.

He served his country proudly and was a WWII Army Veteran.
Survivors:
One daughter: Sherrie Proffitt of Hestand, three sons: G.Pat Proffitt (Amy) of Burkesville, Joe K. Proffitt(Barbara) of Lafayette, TN and Brian Proffitt of Glasgow, eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by:
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by three brothers: Lynn, Norvell and Ancil Proffitt, three sisters: Emma Simpson, Zelma Jackson and Eddith Brandon and one grandson: Jeremy Star McClendon.

Funeral services held Friday, March 20, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville.
Military rites performed at graveside by DAV Chapter 20 of Glasgow.
