Donald M. Bailey, 72, of 108 Hague St. Beckley, died Thursday Feb. 18, 1993, at his home following a long illness.

Born March 22, 1920 at Grandview, he was the son of the late Ed and Dixie Kirtley Bailey.

Mr. Bailey spent his childhood at Grandview. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and Beckley College, entered the US Army at the age of 22 where he served during the World War II, he served during the invasion of France and was wounded in the Black Forest in Germany on November 30, 1944. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts, Silver Star, Bronze Service Star, Combat Infantry Badge, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. He had beena resident of Hague Street for the last 37 years, was a member of First Baptist Church of Beckley and was a retired superintendent of mines for Smith and Stover Coal Company after 24 years of service. He held memberships in the Beckley Chapters of the VFW, DAV, American Legion and the Purple Heart. Mr. Bailey was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He was preceded in death by a son,
Donald Paul Bailey on Jan 12, 1948;
a sister, Lillian Martin;
two brothers, John and Russell Bailey.

Committal services will be 2 pm Sunday at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum B, with Dr. David Carrico officiating.

Entombment will follow in the mausoleum.

Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post No. 175 Sandy River District at Bradshaw. Friends may call from 6 pm to 9 pm today at Melton Mortuary.

Those wishing to attend the services are asked to meet at 1:30 pm Sunday at Melton Moruary. Donations of sympathy may be made to First Baptist Church, 422 Neville St., Beckley. Arrangements by Melton Mortuary.
