Earl Jay Norris, Sr., 85, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, May 21, 2006, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Born June 8, 1920, in Erwin, TN, he was a son of the late Charles Thomas Norris and Addie Mae (Johnson) Norris.

A graduate of Duke University with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mr. Norris was the retired Assistant to the Vice President of Duke Power, Southern Division, and the former District Manager for Spartanburg. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg and the Bob Morgan Sunday School Class, the Spartanburg Rotary Club, the Duke Power Retiree Volunteers, and the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center Heart Center volunteers. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Betty (Morris) Norris; a daughter, Jaynie (Norris) Boney and her husband, Greg of Blythewood, SC; two sons, Earl Jay Norris, Jr. and his wife Lynn of Waxhaw, NC, and Thomas Charles Norris and his wife Kathy of Lawrenceville, GA; a brother, Homer Stanley Norris and his wife Edna of Spanish Fort, AL; five granddaughters, Melissa Cooper of Winnsboro, Emily Norris and Elizabeth Norris, both of Lawrenceville, GA, and Josie White and Julie White, both of Waxhaw, NC; a grandson, Mac Norris of Lawrenceville, GA; and a great-grandson, Justin Greider of Winnsboro.

Visitation was 2:30-3:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.

Funeral services followed at 4:00 p.m. at the Chapel conducted by the Rev. Robert C. Morgan and the Rev. Sal Barone. Burial with military honors was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Honorary Escort were members of the Bob Morgan Sunday School Class and the Duke Power Retiree Volunteers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 250 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306; or to the Spartanburg Children Shelter, P. O. Box 2663, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
