Bettie Charlene Orr Kennedy, 83, of Loveland died Dec. 8, 2012 at her home. She was born Sept, 29, 1929 in Carthage, MO to Charles Alma and Lena Kitzler Orr. Bettie grew up on a farm and attended a one room schoolhouse near Carthage, MO, there were 12 kids in school with her. She graduated high school in Webb City, MO in 1947. On April 9, 1948 she married Harold D. Kennedy in Carthage, MO after a 6 week courtship. Bettie and Harold moved to Colorado in 1948, then to San Jose, CA in 1953, they later returned to Colorado in 1964 and took up residence in Loveland. They had lived in the same house in Loveland since 1965. Bettie was a salesperson at SH Kress Co., Woolworths and Shapiro's Shoe Store in Missouri. She also worked at Henry's Market in Longmont and spent 6 years in California as a clerk at the Swiss Pastry Chalet which was a specialty old world type bakery owned by the famous Black Hat Master Pastry Chef, Max Ackerman. Bettie was also a seamstress and made custom draperies for 10 years in Loveland before joining Harold as a long haul truck driver in 1974. They spent almost 24 years as a driving team in every state except North Dakota. Bettie belonged to the Bakery Clerks Union, Teamsters Union, Owner Operator Independent Truckers, GMC Mountainaires and several other GMC r.v. organizations. She loved to cook and have company for dinner, travel in the r.v., sewing, making purses, craft shows, and crocheting. Most of all, her kids and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Taking the grandkids on the truck trips were a high light. Bettie is survived by her husband, daughter and son-in-law, four grandsons, granddaughter-in-law, and seven great grandchildren [survivors names omitted]. She was preceded in death by her parents, older brother Bill Orr, sister Bonnie Parker, a baby sister Barbara Orr, and great granddaughter Rebecca Buchholtz. Bettie's mother Lena Orr lived to 103 years old. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, 1:00 pm at Bettie's home. A private inurnment will take place at the Columbarium's at Loveland Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Stepping Stones care of Viegut Funeral Home.--Loveland Reporter-Herald
