Dallas County News, 15 May 1907
Eli Golden was born in Vermilion county, Illinois, May 16, 1834, and died in Dallas county, near Van Meter, May 6, 1907.
He came with his parents to the present place in 1849 and has lived at the same place ever since, first with his father's family, and afterward with his own family.
His wife died 21 years ago. [She was Sallie Ann Johnson.] He leaves 12 children, 26 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. All the children were present during the sickness and death of their father. Those from abroad were, Mrs. B. A. Van Meter of Twin Falls, Idaho, Mrs. F. H. Wright of Merrick, Oklahoma, and Mrs. May Williams of Chewelah, Washington. The other children do not live far way and are well known in the community.
For 55 years he has been a member of the United Brethren church. He was quiet and inoffensive. He had few enemies, if any, and many friends.
The cause of his death was a cancer and he suffered much but he found great comfort in the hope of the Gospel.
The funeral services were conducted from the United Brethren church in Van Meter and the interment was at Otterman cemetery. The pallbearers were Alex Montgomery, Taylor Jennings, Wm. Thornton, Geo. Trindle, Adam Shambaugh and Eli Goar. The text for the sermon was in Matt. 25:21.
