Mark Etna Adamson, 64, of Ashland, Missouri, passed away Monday, March 23, 2015, surrounded by his family, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri.
Mark was born July 1, 1950, in Jefferson City, Missouri, the son of the late Mont Ellis Adamson and Margery (Lott) Adamson. He graduated with the Class of 1968 from Jefferson City High School. He went on to graduate from the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO, with a B.S. in Education in 1972, and earned a Masters in Education Administration in 1979, from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO.
Employed by the Jefferson City High School from 1972 to 1992, Mark enjoyed teaching American History and Anthropology and the students enjoyed him. In 1985, Mark was awarded Outstanding Educator from the Community Teacher's Association. From 1984 to 1990, Mark served as Assistant Principal at Jefferson Junior High School. Additionally, Mark coached Junior High Track and was Supervisor of Junior High Athletics while at Jefferson Junior High.
Mr. Adamson also taught American History at Lincoln University from 1981 to 1986.
Mark was a past member of the National Association and the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals, the Missouri State Teachers Association, the Community Teachers Association-where he was vice president for a term, and the Mid-Missouri Council of the Social Studies. He was also a proud member of the University of Missouri Alumni Association and Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
Mark was an avid sports enthusiast. He was an accomplished athlete in grade school, high school, and college. He lettered in football through high school, played tennis and baseball for the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation, and coached tennis at resorts in the Lake of the Ozarks and Connecticut during school vacations. Mark loved the St. Louis Cardinals, and loved spending time with his sons and buddies watching a baseball game. Mark traveled much of the U.S. and to Russia and Europe. He enjoyed being with and supporting his sons and traveled to various sites with his sons.
Mark is survived by two sons: Mark Wesley Adamson of Austin, TX; Benjamin William Lott Adamson of Columbia, MO; one sister: Megan Adamson of Silver Spring, Maryland; and his former wife: Terri Schaeffer of Columbia, MO. He was preceded in death by his father: Mont Ellis Adamson in 1959; and his mother: Margery Morris in 2008.
Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2015, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2015, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. A Private Interment will be held in the Bernie Memorial Cemetery in Bernie, Missouri, at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the VFW, The Boy and Girls Club of America, Wounded Warriors, or a charity of choice.
