Cleo Marie Daugherty (known as Cleo when she was young, but by Marie from the 1960s on) was the second child of Charles Courtland Daugherty and Ada Frances Nikirk Daugherty. She married her high school sweetheart, Frank R. Forler, on January 9, 1922, at the age of 19. Frank then began a new career at that time as a salesman and then store manager for Kresky and Company, the forerunner to K-Mart. As an employee of Kresky and Company, the Forler family moved frequently throughout the Midwest, including Toledo, OH, Aberdeen, SD, Austin, MN, Rochester, MN, Chicago, IL, Peoria, IL, Sedalia, Missouri, and Rockport, IA. Frank and Marie later retired from Kresky and ran a Ben Franklin store in Bloomfield, NE In the late sixties, Marie and Frank retired for the final time to Bradenton, FL, where they spent many happy years.

Marie was an excellent cook and seamstress. She and Frank spent many happy hours on their houseboat and on the water fishing. They also loved to entertain.

Marie was the mother of three children: Mary Ann Forler, Betty Mae Forler, and Charles Richard Forler.
