Clarence was born into a family with strong deep roots in Perry County. His life was cut short in a tragic railway accident. He was a brakeman and fell to his death beneath the train. The newspaper accounts state he left a widow and two children. The couple had another daughter on the way who was born less than 9 months after his death.

His widow, Amelia nee Wagner, remarried Levi Kesler 22 April 1897 in Toboyne Twp., Perry County.
