William David Edie Jr., 88, of Prosser, Washington, passed away, Friday, March 20, 2015 at his home.
A celebration of life service was held at the Prosser United Methodist Church. Pastor Bo Bryan will be officiating. A public viewing will be held at the Prosser Funeral Home before the service.
Bill was born August 24th, 1926 in Fayettville, Arkansas to William and Gertrude (Brown) Edie. He graduated from Prosser High School in 1945 and joined the Army the same year. Bill married Rita Kodithuwakku on May 20, 1985. Bill was and ‘old iron worker’, as he would say. He worked as such for 35 years as part of Local 14 in Spokane. He spent 25 of those iron working years at Columbia Basin Steel. Later, he worked for Kaiser as a security escort at Hanford. Bill was a high ranking member of many organizations. He had the honor of the following posts: Grand Standard Bear for the Knights of Templar, a twelve time Worthy Patron as well as Deputy Instructor to the Order of the Easter Star (OES), a member of the Kamikan York Rite College, Deputy Grand Master of the Free and Accepted Masons, a three time Royal Patron in Amaranth, a Masada Charter member, a three time Watchman and Shepherd of the White Shrine of Jerusalem and a member of the Honorary DeMolay Legion of Honor.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Rita Edie of Prosser; sister, Faye Myers of Bryan, Texas; son, Terry Edie and his wife Janelle of Stuttgart, Germany; daughters, Tena Edie of Spokane, Washington and Teresa Griffin and her husband, Billy Joe Griffin, of Spokane; along with many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and countless friends that came to know and love him.
Bill is preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Sarah Brown; parents, William and Gertrude Edie; sisters, Ginger Steffen, Wanda Bradshaw and Betty Meriweather; daughters, Kay Buchanan and Virginia Stephenson; grandson, Robbie Kline; and great grandson, Matthew Bonnet.
