"The LaFayette Sun" - February 26, 1908:

In Memory.

On last Wednesday afternoon about 1 o'clock, the death angel entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. Will Abernathy and took their little daughter, Eva Irene, to the other world.
She was eight months and nine days old. She was the only child and sunshine of their home. She was laid to rest in the cemetery at Antioch Thursday evening at three o'clock.
The bereaved ones have our heartfelt sympathy. It seems so hard that God should take their darling child just as they began to love her most, but her young live was as pure as an angel, and we know she is in heaven. Our loss is heaven's gain, so weep not for she is…

Safe in the arms of Jesus,
Safe on His gentle breast;
There by His love o'ershadowed,
Sweetly her soul shall rest.

AND...

In Memoriam.

In loving remembrance of little Eva Irene Abernathy, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Abernathy, born July 3, 1907, and died Feb. 12, 1908.
She was a bright, sweet and loving baby, for a short while she stayed and made so happy their home. Now she is gone and oh! how lonely it is without her, for all through the day and night how lonely it seems, for there are no little hands to wake them out of their dreams.
I feel, dear parent, that it seems to shut out all the light of your life, when the little bright eyes were closed that always welcome your coming and to fold the little hands that will never again clasp yours on earth.
Grieve not, dear parents, but prepare to meet your darling in heaven for she is now in the Shepherd's care, safe in the arms of Jesus. Dear Lord, send some messenger of love to guide our wayward feet, that we may all meet the little darling there, who is waiting at the gage.
We all loved her so well, but God needed one more angel child amidst His shining band, and so he bent with loving smiles and clasped your darling's hand.

Her Aunt,

E. E. H.
