After their marriage the Kittlesons built a log house on their farm, four miles south and one mile east of Hoople, North Dakota. They had an abundance of wild fruit in their woods along the river and encouraged neighbors to pick and preserve sauces and jellies - also transplant trees. They had a true pioneer spirit of sharing.
Ten children were born to their union - Charles, Sam, John, George, Edwin, Oscar, Arthur, Minnie, Julia and Emma (who is buried in Zion Cemetery along with Karrie). Gjermond moved to Montana in 1913 and is buried in Hillside Cemetery, Dodson, Montana.
