Son of Carl John and Ida Albertina (Brown) Sandberg. Husband of Ruth (Mathieu) Brochu Sandberg. He was predeceased by his first wife, Geraldine (Loven) Sandberg; and two brothers, Carl "Tony" and Russell Sandberg.
Virgil worked as a Thunderbolt Mechanic in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was discharged as a Corporal in 1945. A retiree of Hamilton Standard, he worked as a test technician for 28 years. Virgil took great pride in his work on the Space Program, where he participated in the Apollo 13 rescue and received a "Snoopy Award" for his work.
