Levi Duane Ackart was born on May 8, 1936 in Avoca, Iowa to Arnold and Laura (Pritchard) Ackart. He attended school at Avoca Community Schools. Levi had eight brothers and sisters: James, Arlene, Betty, Dorothy, Francis, Harold, Mary and Karen.
He married Ruby Johnson on June 6, 1954 in Avoca, Iowa and they were blessed with two sons Terry and Brent. Levi and Ruby were married for forty-two years when she passed away on July 2, 1996. He later met and then married Janice Nelson on December 27, 1997 in Greene, Iowa.
Levi worked for the Telephone Company with his father; later he was the manager in Greene, New Hampton, and Grundy Center. He also had the opportunity to work with his sons in Hesperia, California. He retired in 1983 living in Hesperia, California, Avoca and Greene, Iowa.
He served his community as a fireman and a Jaycee in Greene. He was interested in cars, woodworking and fishing. Janice and Levi enjoyed traveling to see his family out west, searching antique shops for depression glass, watching pro football games and working in the yard.
Levi died on March 23, 2015 in Waterloo, Iowa attaining the age of seventy-eight years, ten months and fifteen days. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruby Johnson, siblings James, Arlene, Betty, Dorothy, Francis, Harold and Mary.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Janice Ackart of Greene, Iowa; sons: Terry Ackart and his wife Janet and their son Jason and his wife Michelle and their daughter Abby Lynn of Hesperia, California; and Brent Ackart and his wife Lisa of Cornville, Arizona, their daughter Brittany Weed and her daughter Ava of Apple Valley, California; sister Karen and her husband Gary Parker of Waukee, Iowa, other relatives and friends.
