ROBERT C. L. ROBERTSON, M.D., a prominent Houston neurosurgeon, died Wednesday, January 30, 1985, after a brief illness. Dr. Robertson was born in 1905 and was reared in Fort Worth. He received his undergraduate education at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and at Texas Christian University and earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1932, the year he was licensed to practice medicine. After his internship at Community Hospital in New York City and Grasslands Hospital in Valhalla, New York, Dr. Robertson completed his residency in neurological surgery at the Neurological Institute of New York, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, where he was Chief Resident. He served as assistant neurosurgeon on the staff of the Neurological Institute in 1938 and 1939. He entered private practice in Houston in 1939 and practiced here continuously until his retirement two yews ago, except during his active duty service during World War II as a reserve officer in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He left active duty in 1946 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Dr. Robertson was certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery in 1941 and held teaching appointments as a clinical professor of surgery in the division of neurological surgery of the Baylor College of Medicine and as a lecturer in neurological surgery at the University of Texas Postgraduate Medical School, both in Houston. He was both a founder and a past president of the Southern Neurosurgical Society, the Texas Association of Neurological Surgery and the Houston Surgical Society. He was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Academy of Neurological Surgery, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Southwest Surgical Congress, the Southern Medical Association, the Texas Surgical Society, the Houston Academy of Medicine, and the Harris County Medical Society. Dr. Robertson was a member of the Texas Medical Association and the American Medical Association. He held Senior Attending Physician status on Staffs of Hermann Hospital, The Methodist Hospital, Memorial Hospital, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital and Ben Taub General Hosptial. He was a consultant in neurosurgery at Texas Children's Hospital, Chief Consultant in Neurological Surgery for the Veterans' Administration Hospital in Houston and an area consultant for the U.S. Veterans' Administration. He was a member of the Arabia Shrine Temple in Houston and belonged to the Army Lodge No. 1105 AF & AM, San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Robertson is survived by his wife, Marjorie; his sons, R. C. L Robertson II and James W. Robertson and their wives, Nancy and Paula, six grandchildren. Lisa Williamson and Laura, Stirling, Kathleen, Will and Jennifer Robertson; his sister, Mrs. Jones L. Callaway, of Lufkin; his brother, L. Snow Robertson, of Odessa, Texas and his sister-in-law, Mrs. Joseph W. Robertson, of Houston; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Geo. H.
