Mikel Jay Moreno, 18, of Marysville, passed away at home surrounded by his family and many friends.

He was the son of Julio and Cindy (Rosser) Moreno of Marysville, grandson of Linda Rosser and Cotton Rosser and wife Karin of Marysville. Mikel attended Lone Tree School and was an honor student and all-around athlete at Bear River Intermediate School. At Wheatland High School he lettered in football, basktball, and track and was a great friend fo many. He won numerous athletic awards in his school years. Most recently he was chosen King of the 2006 Prom. He was awarded an academic letter for maintaining a 3.5 GPA, graduating with the 2006 class. Mikel was accepted at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco.

Mikel was a fixture at the Flying U Rodeos and PBR Bull Ridings. He displayed his extensive talents of mixing misic for each performance; flanking his famous bucking bulls as well as sorting stock with the Flying U crew. A true passion of Mikel's was assisting his dad in the training of the young bulls at the ranch after school. In 2003 he was awarded the Rodeo Stock Registry "Breeder of the Year" in Stevenville, Texas. He loved music, recording tunes in his Ipod, and was a master with his computer.

Michel will always be rememberd by his family and many friends for his courage and strength in battling cancer for three long years. His legacy will be carried on through the bucking bull breeding program the he and his dad started years ago with the great sire, White Water. Bob Tallman, renownd rodeo announcer and the Reverend John Burns officiated at the services which were held at the Wheatland High School Football Field. Mikel's prized truck, carrying his remains, led the procession to his final resting place at the Wheatland Cemetery. The services were attended by approxately 700 people. A celebration of his life was hosted by Bonnie and Lee Rosser after the services.

Mikel will be greatly missed by his aunts and uncles, Bonnie and Lee, Brian, Reno and Katharine Rosser of Marysville; his great-aunts and uncles, Cheryl and Bill Haase of Red Bluff, Margo and Dean Conard of Flournoy; his many cousins; and rodeo cowboys. He taught everyone the true meaning of valor.
