In 1839, Alexander Miles purchased land in St. Clair County, Illinois. He listed he was a resident of Monroe County when he made the purchase. Alexander married his cousin, Sarah Clark, in St. Clair County, Illinois. Alexander is said to have died on December 25, 1847, which is the information given on the "Miles Family Tree" composed by Delsie Miles Beatty. No burial record has been located, but it is likely Alexander Miles was buried at either the Jordan's Grove Cemetery or the Eagle/Cliffs Miles Cemetery.
