A veteran of the United States Navy, he served during the Vietnam War. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed his family and friends.
Survivors include four children, Robert (Kimberly) Housman of Alsip, Cherie (Alan) Smolkovich of Cabery, John (Becky) Housman, III of Braidwood and Wendy (Joshua) Dyrby of Cabery; six grandchildren, Andrew, Amy and Daniel Housman, Ellenie Dyrby and Johnny and Avah Housman; his fiancee and her daughters, Delores "Dee" McElroy and Jennifer, Jillian and Jessica McElroy, all of Diamond; his mother, Christine of Braidwood; four brothers and two sisters, Larry Housman of Braidwood, Kathy (Butch) Galass of Wilmington, Martin (Linda) Housman of Emington, Dennis (Julie) Housman of Braidwood, Christine (Brent) Olson of Custer Park, and Thomas (Diane) Housman of Wilmington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Robert Housman.
