Jesse was born on Brown's Creek area of Yancey County 23 May 1809. he built a house there and was supposedly the last sibling to leave the area after his parents died.
Jesse Bailey was on the Jury list for Yancey County in 1840,1846 and 1853. In 1846 and 1850, he was on the committee to oversee elections.In 1853 he was on the board to superintend public schools.
According to a descendant, Elbert Tipton, Jesse was left-handed, was a school teacher and fond of bear hunting. Once, when a bear grabbed his best dog and about to kill it, (Jesse was unable to get a shot off with his muzzle-loading rifle for fear of stabbing the dog , he stabbed the bear with his knife and killed it.He was my 3rd great grandfather.
