Minnie Jo was the wife to Vernon Harvey Pope and the mother to Claudia and Harvey Randon "Randy" Pope.


HENRIETTA — Minnie Jo "Mint" Pope, 80, of Joy, Texas, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008, in Wichita Falls.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, May 2, 2008, at the Joy Baptist Church, Joy, with Rev. B. D. Wynn, Jr., of Joy, officiating. Burial will be in the Joy Cemetery, Joy, under the direction of Davis Funeral Home in Henrietta.

Mrs. Pope was born July 4, 1927, in Henrietta, Texas, to John and Minnie (Bostick) York. She married Harvey Pope December 19, 1942, in Henrietta. She received a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and in Russian Literature from Midwestern State University and while attending, was voted Woman of the Year. At the end of her college career, she was elected President of the Mortar Board Sorority. She was a correspondent for the Clay County Leader, where she wrote a weekly column about the community of Joy and won numerous awards for her writing. She was also a housewife and a member of the Joy Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her son, Randy Pope in 1977.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Harvey Pope of Joy; daughter, Claudia Bates and husband Don of Joy; two grandsons, Randy Bedau and wife Andrea and Mike Bedau and wife Jessica, all of Wichita Falls; and two great-grandsons, Nathan Bedau and Ryan Bedau, both of Wichita Falls.
