Brethren immediately insisted that he must spend his time teaching the Word. At that time he was well prepared to teach in the public schools, but he desired to finish his education in higher branches. In 1874 he began to study the dead languages and higher mathematics, and continued to apply himself till he was able to read his Bible in Hebrew, Greek and Latin. In 1875 he was married to Miss Minerva Derrick of Tennessee. For a time he taught school. In 1879 he began to travel and give his entire time to the ministry of the word. He has labored in twelve States. A number of strong churches have been established by him in his work for the Master. In 1892 he was married to Miss Sylvester S. Jones (sic s/b Bessie S Jones) of Krum, Texas. The following year he built a home in Krum, where he now resides. November 1909, he founded the Cofer Correspondence Bible College, of Krum, Texas.
