Joseph J. Abbo, 71, a World War II veteran and longtime Carborundum employee, died Friday (April 24, 1998) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a long illness.
A lifelong Niagara Falls resident, Abbo graduated from Trott Vocational High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, attaining the rank of seaman first class.
After the war, he worked as an operator in charge in the receiving department at Carborundum Co., retiring after 40 years.
Abbo was a parishioner of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. He belonged to the Cataract Lodge and the Italian Sons and Daughters.
Survivors include his wife, the former Loretta Tolli; his son, Joseph A.; five sisters, Rose Walaszek and Virginia Tavano, both of Anaheim, Calif., Mary Ferrara of Buffalo, Louise Harrigan and Angie Favoloro; and two granddaughters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Monday in Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1055 North Military Road, preceded by prayers at 10:30 in Lane Funeral Home, 8622 Buffalo Ave.
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
