Heaven became a little sweeter on the morning of February 18, 2015, as Hallie Irene McCracken Mitchell Barrett passed away peacefully of natural causes.
Hallie was surrounded by close family in Richardson, TX at the time of her passing. Hallie was 91 years old.
Born in Gainesville, TX on July 3, 1923, she was the youngest child of Mary Elizabeth and William Columbus McCracken who preceded her in death in addition to her siblings Leonard, Carl, Ruth and Alma. Hallie would recognize her sister Ruth as her mother due to Mary Elizabeth's passing when Hallie was five years old and William Columbus' passing when Hallie was 14 years old. True to her nature, Hallie has lived a long-full life, outliving her immediate family.
At age 18, Hallie married Raymond Lee Mitchell. In 1970, Raymond suffered a stroke losing his speech and mobility. Hallie, a dedicated wife and full of love, stayed at Raymond's side until he passed in 1975. She would say those were the best five years of their lives.
God had another blessing in store for Hallie; five years later she married Eugene Marion Barrett of Plainview, TX. Hallie and Gene would spend the next 32 years together until his passing.
Hallie is survived by her son James Raymond 'Butch' Mitchell wife Patti; her daughter Rosie husband Bobby Donohue, their son Todd Roby wife Susan and daughter Haley Roby-Stringer. Much loved great-grandchildren Henley, Elise, Lily and Liam. Niece, Laverne Mitchell (more of a daughter); niece, Shirley Murdock; and additional six nieces and five nephews.
Memorial services will be held at Grove Hill Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 24 at 2 p.m.
