Mr. Mercer, 60, of Linden, died Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center from injuries sustained in a house fire. A funeral service was held Saturday, March 28, 2015, 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Young Funeral Home, with Jerry McDonald and Jeremy Mercer officiating. Burial was at Dr. O.A. Kirk Memorial Cemetery. He was born in Hohenwald, the son of the late Samuel Earl Mercer and Earlene Hinson Mercer Averett. He was a brick mason, truck driver, and welder until he became disabled in a work-related accident. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Chris Mercer. Survivors include his wife, Katherine Mercer,of Parsons; a son, Jamie Mercer,of Linden; grandchildren, Timmothy, Hunter, and Korie; a brother, Jerry (Kathryn) Mercer of Lafayette; a sister, April Averett of Linden; stepfather, Tom Eddy (Betty) Averett),of Linden; and many other loving family members and friends.
