John H Schumacher 87, a dedicated family man, peacefully passed away to our Lord on April 1st 2015 in Yakima WA in the presence of his loving family.

John was born in Linton North Dakota on Feb 29th 1928, to John J Schumacher and Helen Kramer who are Germans from Russia. John’s great grandparents Franz Schumacher and Magdalena Aberle arrived with their family from Odessa to Zeeland, North Dakota in 1885. John’s grandfather, Johannes Schumacher, married Katharina Wald where they farmed near Linton North Dakota. His family raised him with teachings of the Catholic faith, German culture and language, and life on the farm. During the late 1930’s, John’s parents moved their family to Yakima.

John was proud to serve in the US Navy on the U.S.S. Arkansas and U.S.S. Fall River. During his tour in the South Pacific he earned the WW II Victory Medal, and received a Governor’s recognition award for his contributions on the U.S.S. Fall River during the atomic weapons testing on Bikini Atoll.

After discharge from the Navy in 1946, John worked for the Northern Pacific Railway. He began painting in the 1960’s and eventually co-founded the Schumacher Painting family business with his son Jim. The community was important to John as he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks, Eagles, and the American Legion.

On Oct 13th 1949 John married Agnes Kraft in Coeur D’Alene Idaho at St. Thomas church. He enjoyed lifelong family memories with Agnes for over 60 years. On Oct 11th 2009, the Schumacher family hosted their 60th wedding anniversary with family, relatives, and friends.

John loved spending time with family. Three days prior to his passing God allowed John to visit his newborn great granddaughter Victoria with close family. Over the years John had many lifelong enjoyments such as family vacations to Alaska, Las Vegas, Arizona, Canada, and throughout Washington. John also enjoyed fishing, boxing, Seattle Mariners, and watching westerns such as The Lone Ranger, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, and others.

John was preceded in death by his parents John J Schumacher and Helen Kramer, siblings Irene Clark, Katherine Ehlis, Helen Schumacher, Michael Schumacher, and brother in laws George Gress, Homer Clark, George Ehlis, and Joseph Headley.
