He was the son of the late Haynes Dawson and Annie Louise Jacobs Graham and the husband of the late Mary Allean Mitchell Graham. He was preceded in death by a sister, Letcy Graham.
He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Navy. In 1958 Mr. Graham moved to Plainfield, N.J. where he was employed by the Plainfield Fire Department until his retirement in 1978. In 1982 he returned back home to serve in many capacities in the community. He served as a deacon and trustee at St. James Missionary Baptist Church; served on the founding board of the St. James Volunteer Fire Department in 1984; Board member of the Columbus County Economic Development Commission and served on the Columbus County Voter Registration Board.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 26 at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn. Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 27 at St. James Missionary Baptist Church with Revs. Kelvin Locklear, Gregg Spaulding and Aaron Campbell officiating. Interment will be in St. James Memorial Cemetery.
He leaves to cherish his memory, three children, Josephine Graham (Lynn) of Whiteville, Leslie Graham of Plainfield, N.J. and Haynes A. Graham Jr. (Meki) of Lake Waccamaw; six siblings, Lydia Moore of Raleigh, John Dawson Graham and Charles Graham, both of Lake Waccamaw, Barbara Spaulding of Whiteville, Willie Porter Graham of Council, Lois Barnett of Plainfield, N.J.; six grandchildren, Johnathan, Eric, Allison, Ayden, Malia and Milana; and two great-grandchildren, Corey and Cadence.
