Funeral Services for Mrs. Mavis Hughes Horton, 73, of Quitman, LA, will be 2:00 PM Friday, April 3, 2015, at Harvest Assembly of God Church in West Monroe with Dr. David Hibbets, Rev. Daniel Hibbets, and Rev. Hudie Beaubouef officiating.

Mrs. Horton was born November 10, 1941, in Monroe, LA and passed away on April 1, 2015 in Quitman, LA surrounded by her family. She fought a courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Horton was member of New Hope Baptist Church in Jonesboro, LA, where faith was exemplified by her service. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing rook, puzzles and canning. Mrs. Horton was a cafeteria worker at Calhoun High School and Ridgedale Academy. Her love for cooking inspired her to cater numerous events including weddings and anniversaries. She then spent several years working for the United States Census Bureau. She brought an atmosphere of joy with her wittiness. To know her was to love her. Her pride and joy was spending time with her grandchildren and they all loved her macaroni and cheese and hot water cornbread.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Tony Wayne Hughes, Sr.; mother, Ruby Clark; sister, Billie Jean Spillman; and granddaughter, Alana Cross.

Survivors include her husband of 10 years, Reggie Horton; children, Teresa Hughes Hibbets (Ronald) of West Monroe, Tony Wayne Hughes Jr (fiancée' Brandy Coleman) of Branson, MO, Cindy Cross (Jerry) of Blanchard, Kimberly Bell (Chris) of Arcadia, LA, Robin Nusbaum (Dave) of Bossier City, Keith Horton (Tabitha) of Quitman; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, siblings, Riley Clark (Marie) of West Monroe, Frances Trim of West Monroe; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Chris Martin, Chris Dunn, Ronald Trim, Scotty Lane, John Bowers, Michael Horton, and DJ Bowers.
