A.U.DIX Dies Suddenly Of Heart Attack: Had Lived Here 46 Years.

The community was saddened late Friday to learn of the death of Mr. A. U. DIX, a resident of McCulley since 1899, and one of the county's best known men.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Butte Community Church with Rev. Ward Smith in charge.
Music during the services was furnished by a quartet composed of Howard Story, Mrs. E. J. Statesman, Mrs. N. C. Andersen and George Raymer, with Mrs. C.J. Tomek as accompanist.
Pallbearers were: Gus Beller, W. W. Mahannah, C. J. Tomek, Bert Kenaston, Karl Peterson, A. S. Hansen.
Burial was made in the Butte Cemetery.
Arlie Umphers DIX was born in the county near Wytheville, Virginia August 1, 1876, and died at his home 7 1/2 miles west of Butte, Nebr., on October 5, 1945, at the age of 69 years, 2 months and 5 days.At the age of three years he moved with his parents to Bland County.When five years of age he moved back to Wythe County near Rural Retreat.In 1888 he came to Madison County, Nebraska with his parents.They lived near Madison until the spring of 1899.They moved to Boyd County, Nebraska where he homesteaded a claim in McCulley Precinct.He was married to Alta Ray BENNETT, February 13, 1901.
To this union five children were born: Earl, Harold, Clair, Elsie, and Vern.
He was converted during a revival meeting held at the McCulley school house in 1908.He was instrumental in building of the Twin Butte Methodist Church which was built on the corner of his farm.He was a Faithful member and later when the Methodist and Congregational Churches united he became a member of the Butte Community Church.There he served many years on the church board.He was usually present at church and Sunday school with his family.
Mr. DIX was one of the old settlers in the community in which he lived, he was an active worker and at all times he could be found on the moral side of any question that came up in business or public matters.He would never hesitate to voice his opinion on public affairs in a clear and thoughtful way which carried weight with his hearers.Arlie as he was familiarly known, was an ever forward and trustworthy citizen.He was a kind and loving husband and father and a friend and helper to everyone, who was in need.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his beloved wife, fours sons, Earl D. DIX, missionary at Banda, Belgium Congo, Africa. Dr. Harold C. Dix of Baltimore, MD. Clair Dix, Joplin, Mo., Vern Dix, Butte, Nebraska one daughter Mrs. Elsie Andrew of Butte, Nebr., Eleven grandchildren, three brothers, Malcom Dix, Alberta, Canada; Henry Dix of Ryanbeck, IA. Wm. Dix of Butte, Nebr.Three sisters, Mrs. Carle Atwood, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Della Fernua, Butte, Nebr., Mrs. Ibbie Dix of Denver, Colo.Two Aunts, Mrs. James McFarland and Mrs. Jennie Hanshew.Many nieces and nephew and many other relatives and a host of friends.
