Services in Lincoln for Nellie Zamora
Services were conducted at St. John's Catholic Church in Lincoln Wednesday afternoon for Mrs. Nellie Zamora who passed away early Monday in Carrizozo hospital at the age of 79.
Fr. George Lechel oficiated at the church service and interment following in the Lincoln community cemetery. Burial was beside her husband, Felix Zamora, who death occurred in 1945. The Shaw Mortuary was in charge of arrangments.
Mrs. Zamora (Nellie McVeigh) was said to have been the first baby born at Fort Stanton. Her birthdate was October 19, 1878. Her father was a soldier at the fort.
Her childhood was spent in Lincoln during the turbulent days of the Lincoln County war.
During many of the later years she was a cook at Indian agency at Mescalero, where she had many friends among the Indians because she understood them.
Mrs. Zamora is survived by four sons and two daughters, all of who were present for the funeral. They are Joe Gomez of Albuquerque; Felix Zamora of Globe, Ariz., Willie Gomez of Las Lunas, and Alex Gomez of Glencoe; Clara Juarez of Lompoc, Calif.; and Emma Romero of Lincoln.

Nellie & Jose were divorced by 1912. He married Josefa Chavez & lived in Los Lunas until at least 1920. They had one son Albert in 1918. Dont know when he passed away.
