Dorothy Burgess Pate 12/17/1920 - 3/28/2015
Dorothy Burgess Pate passed away in the comfort of her own home at the age of 94 following the passing of her husband, Homer Wynfield Pate, on March 8, 2015.

Dottie was born to Mack Burgess and Addie B Burgess in Decatur, Alabama. She grew up in the nearby town of Cullman, Alabama attending public schools. She had the challenges of growing up in the depths of the Great Depression and still managed to have the privilege of making lifelong friends and being a Cullman High School cheerleader. She developed a strong work ethic and sense of responsibility and integrity.

On November 1, 1942 she married the love of her life, Wynfield Pate, at the Cullman First Baptist Church when he came home on survivor's leave after the sinking of the USS Wasp. This was the beginning of her adventures as a Navy wife that included many moves that would eventually encompass a family of three children.

No matter where Dottie was to set up housekeeping there was always a warm and welcoming home for her family and her host of friends (including Quonset huts and an abandoned hospital). Southern hospitality was the rule; her cooking was enjoyed by all.

Dottie was always an active member of her community. She supported church groups, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and school activities.

When her children were grown she worked in the business office of a hospital and as an administrative assistant in an insurance office. After retirement to Tucson she and Wynfield traveled extensively in the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Europe and the Holy Land.

Dottie is survived by her children, Patricia (Gary), Michael (Tobie) and Nancy (Kevin), ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Her sisters and brother are deceased.

A Memorial service for Dottie and Wynfield will be held at the Catalina Foothills Church, 2150 E. Orange Grove Road, Tucson on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. They will be laid to rest in Miramar National Cemetery, San Diego, CA.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the American Parkinson Disease Assn. Arizona, P.O. Box 40067, Tucson, AZ 85717. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.
