Bertha Mae Wallace Wood was the only daughter of James W. and Nancy Elizabeth Dolinger Wood. She was very young when her father died. She had five brothers, William Delmer, Thomas Franklin, Walter Lee, James Wesley, (my dad) and Jesse Marvin who died at age 3.. She was married to James Martin "Jim" Wood. They had five children. One child, the youngest, Glenna Mae Wood Nida preceded them in death.

She was loved by everyone who met her. When you would go to her house, you'd find her in the garden or in the kitchen cooking or canning. She loved to fish. She loved her family and loved taking care and doing special things for them.

She took care of her mother, Nancy Elizabeth Dolinger Wallace after she and her oldest son, William Delmar moved from Fireco, Raleigh County, WV to New River Road, Hinton in Summers County, WV. Her husband, Jim and their sons, Earl and Tom, and son-in-law, Rudy Radford Jr. built a lovely 2 bedroom home for them next to their home. After the death of her mother, her brother, Delmar moved into her home until her death. Delmar than moved into Aunt Bertha oldest daughter, Betty and husband Glen Virts' home further down the New River Road. Delmar was the oldest child, he out lived his parents and all of his siblings.
