BOONSBORO - Pauline Elizabeth Poffenberger Hughes, 85, of 17827 Bakersville Road, died Monday, May 16, 2005, at her home.
Born July 13, 1919, near Boonsboro, she was the daughter of the late Victor Charles and Phoebe Haller Poffenberger.
Her husband, Donald Eugene Hughes, died May 16, 1969.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Hagerstown.
She is survived by:
three daughters,
Jeanne Keeney of Boonsboro,
Carolyn Winfield of Wolfsville, Md., and
Robin Kifer of Hagerstown;
one son,
Kenneth R. Hughes of Boonsboro;
two sisters,
Louise Bidle and
Helen Kline, both of Hagerstown;
13 grandchildren;
great-grandchildren;
nieces; and nephews.
She was preceded in death by:
four sons,
Donald L. Hughes,
Richard A. Hughes,
Douglas E. Hughes and
Monte V. Hughes;
two sisters,
Margaret Rohrer and
Virginia Holder; and
four brothers,
Charles Poffenberger,
Harold Poffenberger,
William Poffenberger and
Robert Poffenberger.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Bast Funeral Home, Boonsboro. Brother Richard G. Myers will officiate. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Bakersville.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
