Oscar Christ Schoenberg was born February 26, 1922 in Spring Hill, Minnesota, the 4th of the eleven children of William and Eleanor (Braun). Fr. Oscar died in Onamia, Minn., on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015, at the age of 93 years.
He entered the Crosier novitiate in Hastings, Neb., August 27, 1942, and made his first profession of vows on August 28, 1943. Was ordained a priest in Hastings, Neb. on May 27, 1948. Fr. Oscar was one of three Schoenberg brothers to have joined the Crosiers.
Fr. Oscar spent many of his years in ministry as a formator and teacher for the Crosiers, as a Minnesota State Hospital chaplain in Moose Lake, and assisted in various parishes in Nebraska and Minnesota.
Reception of the Body and the Office for the Dead will take place at the Crosier Priory church in Onamia, Minn., on Saturday, April 11th, at 9:00 AM. Vigil will be kept until the 11:00 AM Funeral Mass. A luncheon will follow with a later private burial in the Priory cemetery.
He is survived by siblings Br. Walter Schoenberg, OCSO, and Br. Leo Schoenberg, OSC, as well as by numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and his Crosier confreres.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William (1937) and Eleanor Schoenberg (1956); siblings, Fr. Martin Schoenberg, OSC, Sr. Lucy Schoenberg, OSF, Victor Schoenberg, Mary Jane Schneider, Helen Mueller, Flora Eull and infant brothers Lawrence and John Schoenberg.
Memorials are preferred to the Crosier Fathers and Brothers, Box 500, Onamia, MN, 56359, for the formation and education of Crosiers.
