Joseph M. Brey, 81, formerly of 1620 Manila St., Manitowoc, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005 at the Manitowoc Health Care Center.
Joseph was born April 18, 1923, in Edgar, Wis., son of the late Michael and Anna Bargander Brey. He attended Kellnersville schools and then served in the U.S. Army during WWII with the 252nd Field Artillery in Europe.
Joseph married the former Josetta Spatchek on June 24, 1947 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Reedsville.
He retired from the Manitowoc Public School System in 1988. Joseph was a lifelong member of the VFW Cato Post #6179 and of the Cootie Stitches 34.
Survivors include his wife: Josetta Brey of Manitowoc; two sons and daughters-in-law: Roger and Kathy Brey of Oshkosh and Jim and Eileen Brey of Whitelaw; three daughters and sons-in-law: Susan and Gordon Kmetz of Minneapolis, Bonnie and Bill Lenberg of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Patti and Mike Piaskowski of Manitowoc; 10 grandchildren: Michael (Amy) Brey and Sarah (Ty) Larsen, Andrea, and special friend, Chad, Zachary and Jacob Kmetz, Joshua, Megan and Matthew Brey, Joseph and Jack Piaskowski; two great-grandchildren: Cassidy and Cody Larsen; five sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law: Celia and Edward Spurney, Elaine Nienhaus, Rolland and Ruth Spatchek, Edwin and Angeline Spatchek, Edward Keller, Joan Keehan. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law Joseph and Delia Spatchek; one brother Norbert Brey; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law: Harold and Clara Spatchek, Elmer Spatchek, Mary Ann Keller and Ellsworth Nienhaus.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Manitowoc. from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Camilius Janas O.F.M. with entombment at Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc. Military Rites will be accorded by Kubale-O-Connell VFW Post 6179 Kellnersville, Wis.
