Mr. Willis "Bubbles" R. Abbott, Jr., age 71 of Walkersville passed away suddenly on Monday, April 6, 2015 at home. He was the loving husband of 28 years of the late Sharon J. Abbott who passed away on May 30, 2013. Born on March 28, 1944 in Takoma Park, he was the son of the late Willis R., Sr. and Marybelle (Poole) Abbott.

Mr. Abbott was a 1962 graduate of Frederick High School. He had been an offense linemen on the varsity football team. Following high school he entered the Navy serving our nation in Vietnam. He was on the ship USS Intrepid (CVS-11) which is now a museum in New York City. He served as an Aviation Boatswain's Mate before being honorable discharged in 1966. He returned home to a job he had at Safeway and continued working for over 40 years. He then continued employment for Frederick County Public Schools in food services for an additional 10 years. In his free time he enjoyed drag racing. With a group of friends, they created the Duquesne Racing Team and enjoyed competing for trophies. He was a member at the Frederick American Legion FSK Post 11 and a life member of the Frederick AmVets Post 2. Lastly he was a lifelong Washington Redskins fan.

Mr. Abbott was the (step) father of Sherrie Lynn (Raitala) Myers and husband Gary of Brandywine, MD. He is also survived by his sister Rosemary Abbott of Richmond, VA, two brothers Lawrence Abbott and wife Susan of Walkersville, and Kenneth Abbott of Frederick and several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his loving dog Daisy.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 9, 2015 from 5:30 to 8 PM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick where services will be held in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 10 AM. The interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. The family encourages floral arrangements however contributions may be made in Mr. Abbott's name to the Disabled Veterans, 1020 19th St., NW, Suite 475, Washington DC 20036.
