Agnes Phillips was born in Brandon, Minnesota on February 14, 1901, the daughter of Halvor and Hannah (Torkelson) Evju. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith, graduated from Brandon Schools and St. Cloud Business College. She then moved to St. Paul where she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper. On July 1, 1924, Agnes was united in marriage to George Phillips in St. Paul. The couple lived there until 1954 when they moved to the Lake Carlos area of Alexandria. George died in 1956 and Agnes moved to the Bethel Manor in 1983.
Agnes died at the Douglas County Hospital on May 6, 1989, at the age of 88 years. She is survived by brother: Gilman Evju of Mesa, AZ; sisters: Mrs. Olga Olson of Minneapolis; Betsey Bakken of Minneapolis; and Ethel Scherrer of Brandon. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters and one brother.
Funeral services were May 11, 1989 at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Alexandria, Minnesota, with Rev. Paul Swenson officiating. Interment was in Kinkead Cemetery, Alexandria, Minnesota. Pallbearers were Jerome Granlund, Calvin Granlund, Marvin Rustad, Ronald Droppo, Mark Granlund and Lloyd Anderson. Arrangements with anderson Funeral Home.
