Jr. Married Miss Marcia Louise Kirkhuff,
in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.

LAKEWOOD ARMY DOCTOR DIES

A Lakewood Army doctor who contracted
infantile paralysis while aiding war
casualties at a front line hospital
was one of the city's latest servicemen
to be reported dead.

FIRST LIEUT. EDWARD J. HUMEL, JR., 28,
husband of Mrs. Marcia Humel, and son
of Mr. Edward J. Humel, both of 1381
Cook Avenue, Lakewood, died April 1,
(1945) in Paris, of infantile paralysis.

Lieut. Humel had been ill three days
when his death occurred in an army
hospital in Paris. He was a member
of the Army Medical Corps and had
been in the army nine months and
overseas four months.

He was a Lakewood High School graduate
(1934), and received his medical degree
at Western Reserve University, being
graduated Magna Cum Laude. He served
his internship at University Hospitals
and later was assistant resident
physician there for two years before
entering service.

In addition to his wife, and father,
he is survived by a son, Edward J.
Humel, III, 11 months old.

Humel would later marry James
Gibbs Kresge. She died in 1994
in Sonoma County, California,
at age 75 years, 6 months.
